Lady MacBeth

This will be my third or fourth time reading MacBeth, but I enjoy it more each time as I am abel to understand more and more of their language. Lady MacBeth is the most interesting person in the book to me. I like that we read Bitch Planet before this because I feel like they are the complete opposite and it makes me feel better about females than Bitch Planet did. So after reading again and again I find it so awesome that Lady MacBeth is so in charge. We did not see that in Bitch Planet or more or less real life. I found it interesting that Lady MacBeth was in charge of MacBeth. It is different reading a book so powerful with the female telling the male to kill the king, hide the evidence, and act oblivious to the situation. It was exciting to see that powerful female role taken on and succeeding in the death of King Duncan. On the other hand it disappoints me that she bossy and controlling and made him do something he did not want to do.  After killing Duncan in Act 2 MacBeth says, "If I had only died an hour before this event I could say I had lived a blessed life. Because from this moment on, there is nothing worth living for. Everything is a sick joke. The graceful and renowned king is dead. The wine of life has been poured out, and only the dregs remain". Reading this made me sad that he felt he had to kill Duncan because Lady MacBeth. I feel bad for MacBeth and think he is a good guy, but he also can make his own decisions and cant be mad at L.M. for his actions to please her.

Another part of the reading that I analyzed, questioned, and thought about more was in Act 2 as well. After the killing of Duncan, L.M. acts oblivious to the situation and acts upset and scared. Macduff says to L.M., "Oh gentle lady, my news isn't fit for your ears. If I repeated it to you, it would kill you as soon as you heard it". So basically Macduff is saying this because he doesn't think a girl could handle a death. He believes L.M. is too weak to handle the news, but little does he know she was involved in the killing.

Its interesting to compare these two situations gender wise. In the first paragraph I described how L.M. took on a leader role and for once was more powerful than the guy within the relationship. The second paragraph I talked about how Macduff was demeaning towards L.M. I am eager to read the rest of the book and see how the gender roles play out. Right now I am a little confused to if women are more powerful during this time and in the whole book or if the men will stay more powerful and think of the women as weak.
